The seventh house: partners, exchange and building a life together
The seventh house extends beyond one's “other half” to matters requiring two parties: spouses, cooperation, public relations and practical responsibilities.

Why move from self to others?
The first house concerns the person themselves; the seventh brings a relatively independent other into their life. Marriage, business partnerships, transactions and public interaction all require understanding another's needs and producing results through exchange and cooperation.
The focus here is whether people can enjoy relationships and receive help, as well as make useful contributions. A relationship's value lies not just in having a particular status, but in what both people can build together.
What to examine in the fifth and eighth houses
The fifth house emphasizes affection and creativity, the seventh partnership and shared responsibilities, and the eighth trust, vulnerability and shared resources. A relationship question often involves all three levels.
For example, two people like each other but have different expectations about dividing money or taking responsibility for arrangements after a move. Attraction, commitment and shared resources all arise here and need separate discussion.
Individual conditions and comparison between two people
An individual chart examines how a person participates in relationships, receives and gives; compatibility compares two people’s needs and interactions. Combining individual conditions with the comparison helps clarify their actual relationship.
The seventh house lord, cusp and relevant significators must be selected according to the specific method. Planets occupying the seventh bring their own qualities into the partnership environment; their role must still be distinguished from their placement.
Exploring different sides of a relationship
D7 examines cooperation in shared life and creation; D9 examines direction, meaning and marriage choices; comparing the Moons in relationship compatibility examines mutual nourishment and daily rhythms. Each asks different questions about the same relationship.
Combining different observations helps clarify where cooperation flows, where mismatches arise, what responsibilities the current stage adds, and what support can help the relationship recover.
