Major-period lengths and the initial balance
In the standard 120-year Vimshottari sequence, Venus receives 20 years. The birth lunar mansion determines the starting planet, and the proportion traversed within it determines the remaining balance of the first period. Life therefore often begins partway through a major period already underway.
Venus's natal responsibilities, actual placement, condition and connections influence the specific themes of this period.
Period lord themes: value, relationships, and enjoyment of life
Venus concerns value judgments, relationships, vitality and recovery. Art, enjoyment and partners are among its common traditional significations.
Attraction, willingness to invest, and long-term coordination each play a role in relationships. Both people's details and the relevant life areas help clarify their needs and the conditions for getting along.
Different ascendants change the houses ruled by Venus, bringing these natural significations into different matters such as home, work and relationships.
Venus: enjoyment, resources and upkeep
Venus’s dignity, angular or trinal placement, and the connection of its ninth- and tenth-house responsibilities with the fourth house inform assessments of resources, relationships and support in life. Difficult circumstances may increase expenses, relationship responsibilities or asset maintenance.
These supportive and impairing conditions may occur together. The reading uses the actual chart to explain which is more prominent for the question at hand.
The order and proportions of the nine subperiods
Antardashas begin with the mahadasha planet itself and continue in the fixed nine-planet sequence. Each duration equals the mahadasha years multiplied by the antardasha planet's standard years, divided by 120. The table below shows three decimal places.
Exact Gregorian start and end dates are determined jointly by the birth instant, the balance of the first period, and the year length. This site uses a Saura year of 365.2422 days for conversion.
| Antardasha planet | Duration derived from the standard year proportions |
|---|---|
| Venus | 3.333 |
| Sun | 1.000 |
| Moon | 1.667 |
| Mars | 1.167 |
| Rahu | 3.000 |
| Jupiter | 2.667 |
| Saturn | 3.167 |
| Mercury | 2.833 |
| Ketu | 1.167 |
How major periods and subperiods work together
The major period provides the stage’s background; subperiods add conditions for results to form, persist or change. Combined with divisional charts for the relevant areas, they offer a more specific view of opportunities, burdens and progress during this time.
What partners enjoy together, how much they are willing to invest, and how they share daily responsibilities can affect a relationship's continuity. Attraction, appreciation, and long-term coordination each play a role.
